ORGANIZATIONS FIGHTING MEASLES
Global Measles Initiative — is a partnership between The Red Cross and World Health Organization. This partnership was struck in 2001, with the goal of eradicating measles worldwide.
Seattle Red Cross — brings together 1,500 employees and volunteers each year to care for their neighbors, to train 70,000 people in life-saving skills, and to respond to a disaster about once every 48 hours.
The Red Cross — is the world’s largest volunteer NGO, founded in 1863, led to the creation of the Geneva Convention, and is dedicated to its 7 fundamental principles (Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, Universality)
The World Health Organization — is the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system. It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.
UNICEF — Through the 1980s, UNICEF worked with WHO to achieve Universal Childhood Immunization of the six EPI vaccines (BCG, OPV, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and measles). As a result a record 106 million children were vaccinated in 2008 and global immunization rates are at their highest level ever (82% in 2008).
CORPORATE PARTNERS
Graph Paper Press — focuses on creating graphically minimal, content-rich designs that provide readers with multiple entry points to access content. Graph Paper Press is increasingly focused on helping visual artists, photographers, video, and new media producers present their work to the world. GPP’s goal is simple: they want to help you to look good online. GPP was kind enough to donate their products for use on themeasles.org. We’ve used several competing (commercial and open source) products before and Graph Paper Press builds the nicest looking and most robust ones we’ve ever tried, hands down. If you’ve found this site easy to navigate and pleasing on the eyes, you have GPP to thank.
Metrix Create:Space — Part techshop, part hackerspace, part coffeeshop. Open to the public on a busy retail strip in Seattle, Metrix Create:Space asks “What can you make?” Metrix has been a source of ongoing support for our project, from our first laser-cut poster to helping us re-solder a motherboard in the midst of a computer meltdown. Our gravity-powered coin sorters have seen many revisions in the Metrix laser cutter; we may have never found a working design if it hadn’t been for the input from Metrix staff and customers alike!
